About the Song “Prevail”

A friend of mine listened to the beat and suggested I attempt an uplifting song. Something to motivate people with a message of hope…and this is what I came up with.

Unfortunately, the version you hear is not a perfect representation of the vision I had for this song. Also, it should be noted that I lost the original recording and had to piece it back together from a broken up temp file. Some stuff is missing.

The beat is called “Save Me.” It was produced by my dude in the UK, Big B. As such, I include it as a part of the Practice Words series of songs.

The other day my brother told he was feeling down
He said the worlds against him and it keeps him with a frown
Instead of giving options all it does is gives him pounds
Of an illicit substance and a coupla cartridge rounds

His daughter wants or needs it and he wants to make her proud
Proud to call him daddy so he does what he knows how
He knows the consequences if he fails or falls or bows
Because he fell before – and so he can’t allow

The world to eat him up and spit him out, the time is now
He knows a better way is out there and he made a vow
That he would find it even if he thinks it can’t be found
And that was so profound, I’m glad when he rebounds

You gotta listen to your brain and heart, not other sounds
You gotta stand and fight through it don’t follow all the clowns
Cuz when the waters above your head and you think you’ll drown
You gotta swim against the rising tide to reach the ground

Because its difficult to be alone and still stay grounded
And being miserable will only help you stay confounded
