Popular Gay Rap Songs Are On the Horizon

There’s always been a stigma attached to gay people in the hip-hop community. But the times, they are a-changin. With people becoming more and more relaxed with the idea of gay people in our midst (mind you, they’ve ALWAYS been there), we’re seeing more of them come out. Sports figures are talking about it, musicians are talking about it, celebrities have been talking about it.

But what about the rappers? There’s always been rumors of gay rappers. In fact, almost every rapper that’s achieved any kind of success, has been accused of homosexuality. But what about the future? Given the current path that American society is set on, it’s almost guaranteed that we will not only have openly gay rappers, but openly gay rappers that make openly gay songs. Just think of all those club bangers you love to hear…and then put a gay slant on them.

I posted this on the Facebook wall of my main page the other night:

In the future, I guarantee there’s going to be super gay rappers that drop club songs with super gay lyrics. You gonna be hearing shit like “I’m lookin for a firemannnnn — come slide down the pole – slide – slide down pole — cuz I’m felling like I’m just too hot” — and niggas is gonna be saying shit like “…I don’t fuck wit it…but that beat hot though.”

Now, I said that to be funny. But think about it. These songs WILL come eventually. I’m sure there’s already stuff like that out there, but it’s either tongue-in-cheek (so to speak:), or it’s so underground, only a select few know. I’m talking about billboard charting rap pop songs. When it comes on in the club…will you dance to it? Or act like the beat ain’t hot? 😛

I predict this will happen with the transgender community as well. If you know anything about the music industry, you’ll know that if one song becomes popular, the labels will try to force it down our throats for profit (pun intended).

Consider that the current crop of kids growing up will see a lot of this as normal. Other than the kids that are raised with stuff like this specifically pointed out to them as bad. I can’t wait to see it. Mostly because I want to see the backlash that comes from a very popular gay rap song. It’s going to be epic to begin with, and then it’s going to become the norm. As is the progress of all things.

Just a freestyle really

This rap music track started as an impromptu text freestyle on Facebook last year – It came after a long time of me not writing anything new and I was a little surprised by it. The rhyme scheme and patterns were not typical of me, most notably repeated rhymes (something I always hated!). But I found that this style is what came out of me naturally…I suppose I’ve changed.

I like this track because of the way it’s worded. The style of it has carried over to everything I’ve written since. As usual, I can’t really speak for the mixing or the mastering…if you can make it sound better, PLEASE, do so!

This is also the song that launched the tiny bit of love that I now get on SoundCloud. It got a few people interested in my other songs. I forgot whose beat it is that I’m rhyming over. One of those industry dudes, I’m sure you probably know better than me. When I remember, I’ll update the post.

SB Retro: Balancing My Essence (StreetsTurnRed)

This retro track is really a mashup of two different little freestyles of mines. I broke em up and changed/rewrote four bars into a chorus. As usual, my language, especially in the first verse, should be your biggest clue that this is indeed an old track 🙂 As far as my rap music goes, this tracks has more of a hood feel to it. You know, that mix of gunspeak, braggadocio and that all important dash of ignorance 🙂

The beat has changed a few times as I was never quite satisfied with how it sounded. I eventually settled on this Kanye West beat from his song We Major (feat Nas) off of his Late Registration album. There’s just something magical about the beat to me. And Kanye killed it (see video below:) — I also added some links to the instrumental itself on youtube at the end of this post.

About Vagrant Story (Place Where You Die)

Yup, another old retro track. Vagrant Story is yet another song about the hood…more or less 🙂 As far as any of my rap music goes, you can tell this one is old just by the language I use. I recorded to the beat of the Money, Cash, Hoes song by Jay-Z (featuring DMX and produced by Swizz Beats) from his Hard Knock Life album. The title comes from an old Playstation RPG of the same name.

My favorite part of this track? The first 4 bars of the second verse. Mainly because they are lyrics I added/rewrote recently to fill out the verse. They let me know that my style and way of thinking is vastly different than when I originally wrote this song — “You can look for the answers, through the hood’s many layers, to who’s to blame for this game that turned us all into players. And you’ll find that the answers come in too many flavors. Shrug ya shoulders and move on cuz the answers can’t save us.”

Another old track. This song is a little more personal than my usual rap music fare. I’ve had it floating around for a while along with others. This one is called FeelinDaHigh or Feeling the High depending on how I’m feeling 🙂 A previous fan of this song (in the past) told me he didn’t like this version because I cleaned it up too much. His reasoning was that I washed out too much of the pain that was in the original track by doing that. I think his nostalgia is just talking. I’ll add the original to this post when I find it. I’ll let you decide (yes…all 2.6 of you:)

Spit Bombs is just a really old track I did back in the day. For some reason, to this day, many still consider it some of my best stuff despite it only really being something of a freestyle. Many will recognize the beat from Missy’s Hot Boyz remix featuring Nas (Eve and Q-Tip too). As far as my rap music goes, I do think the lyrics of this track are a good example of just what my style was about at the time.

Been Spittin

So, I was getting ready to try recording some new rap music for the first time in like…half a year. Just wanted to do a quick track to see how it sounds in this new room…but then it dawned on me that I never posted the last coupla tracks I did several months ago.

So I figured I’d post those first before testing my equipment. This first one is called “Been Spittin” and the next one, which I will put into a separate post, is called “Child of Kings” – Both of these tracks have been in my reverbnation playlist, but as they are content, they belong here as well. I believe I used them both for my short lived Track Challenge, may it rest in peace. So this represent both the Track Challenge tracks and the Practice Words Mixtape.

Been Spittin – Produced by Big B on SoundCloud

This is another track that belongs in the Big B Presents category. I believe he wanted to do something with the Saw theme and didn’t realize at the time that everybody and they mama had already sampled the hell out of it. He went on to make the beat anyway, and I, of course, rhymed over it.

It’s a little bit of rap music called “Car Windows.” And I admit that it came out a bit sloppy and slurred, I was rushing…and drinking, but as I keep telling you, don’t take these tracks too seriously. These are just practice words.

Ask my little cousins and my grandmama…I was saying “I’m Me” waaaaaay before you heard it from Lil Weezy:))

I recorded this a while ago, but I didn’t want to post it because there were so many artifacts in the recording…a LOT of em (pops, clicks, stutters, static, etc) – I wanted to re-record it but never got around to it. Big B already did the remix using the bad audio and everything.

I’d forgotten about it and then saw it on my PC, and figured fuck it, might as well post it as is. I like the beat that Big B used on the re-edit, so I’m gonna make that the main one in the top player above. I’ll post the other as well in the music player. The only difference between the two is the beat, the bad audio is in both. But it’s still some rap music you might enjoy.
