Unfinished Recital
The words stopped so suddenly
Falling to the ground as if
Gravity no longer held
The delicate balance
Of sound to air
He called a gathering of the children
Even held one, bawling, in his arms
For to give them the blessing of the lord
For almost five heartbeats
The Silence permeated the air
As if those were the last words
To ever be spoken
He fell to the life giving Earth
The gift given/taken back
As if the Earth just could no longer
Sustain the weight of this one man
The proverbial straw
All that could be heard
Or not heard, as the case seemed to be
Were the cries of an infant
Cradled, in his lifeless arms
