The HerStory of She
And this is how lightning strikes
Sudden like death, awesome like life
And this is how lightning strikes
Sudden like death, awesome like life
She revealed it one night, like lightning in the dark
Words spilled from her mouth like a fountain
She told the story in sharp tones; cold, dry and stark
Words hard, like the heart of a mountain
The caress of a man She had known all her years
She was so very young when it starts
Father to her sister, husband to her fears
And She knew that it was wrong, She was smart
She first tells her mother, and that was a dead end
Maternal instincts had packed to depart
Her sister was younger, could not comprehend
So She was left with this trapped in her heart
The very first time he was savage
He had forced her young bones to unfold
Blood ran down her thighs to the mattress
And there formed a lake in her soul
This is how lightning strikes
Sudden like death, awesome like life
This is how lightning strikes
Sudden like death, awesome like life
In the arms of every man, She saw horrors, a dirty past
Instead of running from, She ran toward, She’s broken glass
Those that tried to mend the pieces only cut up their hands
Battered beauty, at this time She finally understandsUnderstood that life was short, and that nothing is as it’s planned
Nothing is as it’s planned. Nothing is as it’s planned. And so…
She was confused about love, confused about truths
Confused about lust and what it tells her to do
She was bruised by hearts that are joined like two
But were split by sharp knives that part through blues
Sharp eyes that reveal what the heart holds true
Beholder was he emboldened by cues
Signals sent by She so unknowingly cute
But the line pulled taut She was captured by youth
Young love he and She it was all She knew
But that youth was marred by caress turned bruise
From hands so soft She was left in ruin
But, that was the past She has paid those dues
Learned those lessons, made those moves
Done with that path, She follows new rules
She wanted me to understand and not misconstrue
She wanted me to know the truth and not see the ruse
And that’s how lightning strikes
Sudden like death, awesome like life
And that’s how lightning strikes
Sudden like death, awesome like life
