Update 05/29/2010 – Here is a blog post on mincing the term “pro-life” – it’s written by Joshua Holland and touches on one of the subjects that I write about here. I link to it here because he puts it much better than I can 😛
Abortion, Why is it Such a Big Deal?
Abortion. A loaded topic if ever there was such a thing. I don’t particularly know about the rest of the world, but people here in the U.S. go completely apeshit over the topic of abortion. I mean, there has been horrific violence tied to the subject, and I’m not talking about the dead fetuses. I’m talking about grown ass people kidnapping and killing doctors, bombing clinics, picketing, fighting, adding changes to legislation and so on and so forth. I mean, it’s a bit ridiculous.
I feel that no matter what you feel about the issue, whether you are so called “pro-choice” or “pro-life” there’s one small thing that we are all forgetting. Where is the freedom in this country? In a free nation, a person who wants to abort their unborn child should be well within their rights to do so. Point blank. I can understand extenuating circumstances and a governing body of law should be in place to address those issues when they arise, but for the most part…if someone wants to do it, let em.
What are the arguments against abortion? I would gather that a chunk of them are uber-religious in nature, and of that religion…I’d hazard a guess at Christianity being the biggest culprit. I suppose the biggest argument would be:
“They (the fetuses) are living human beings and therefore abortion is murder.”
When someone gets an abortion, I’m pretty sure that they’re going through some pretty strong physical, emotional and mental stresses already. Being labeled a murderer must be the icing on the cake right? I personally can’t see a fetus as a living human being, and even if such a thing is absolutely fact, I gotta ask this: So what? I’m a bit cold on this subject. I think there are too many people as is. Everybody wants to protect the fetus, but stops giving a fuck when it becomes an actual breathing human being.
Many arguments get brought into this equation. Questions about the health of the carrier. Questions about morals and lack of education. Questions about rape pregnancies and etc etc etc. With so many different possible circumstances and points of view on the subject, I think it would be best for everybody, if everybody let the individuals decide for themselves and/or with the people that they trust/love and are involved with.
Yes, I do think that some government involvement is in order, especially for those that need an abortion done and can’t afford it and to make sure there are universal and regulated procedures. Yes, I think that people should be educated about the possible health care concerns of having an abortion as well as about the alternatives to abortion. And yes, I do believe that those horrific fetus pictures that the pro-lifers like to show should be seen by people thinking to have the procedure done. Young girls who are thinking about it should talk it out with friends, family or professionals. But in the end, I also think that if people decide to have it done, they should not be criminalized and vilified for their actions.
To all of you woman that have had abortions, for whatever reasons, I’m not mad at you at all.
To all of you that are thinking about it, I urge you to educate yourselves first. There are other options and other things to consider. But, I leave it up to you, good luck.
The color, the fruit
…the color of the fruit
The word, orange
It used to be called yellowred
One word not two
Things change
Her favorite color was orange
Can you guess her favorite fruit?
She mastered the fine art
Of peeling the skin
In one whole piece
Slowly she would push
Her slender fingers into
The center and divide
Sharing with me the slices
We would watch the sun set
Yellowred on the horizon
She would peel off the
Hard, uncompromising
Cynical armor
Of my outer self
Leaving me raw but whole
She carefully removes
The remaining pith
Slowly, she would push
Herself into my center
And force me to divulge
The secrets of my inner self
Wet and sticky
We share the slices
Bitter and sweet
We plant the seeds
She…squeezes
We entwine
Orange, the unrhymable word…
The subject of this post, “orange”, was suggested to me by Ivy. See this post for more details.
Now that all the hype has died down…relatively speaking, I guess it would be okay for me to say a few words about Avatar (no, not the Last Airbender:)).
James Cameron proved, once again, that he could make and hype a movie towards box office gold. If for some reason you do not know who James Cameron is, well, then you’ve been living in a hole for the last two decades. Alternatively, if you have been watching any movies at all over the last two decades, then you have probably seen a James Cameron film. The man has written and directed a plethora of hits. Some of them are favorites of mines. Some of them are favorites of yours as well. Terminator 1 and 2, True Lies, Aliens and of course, Titanic, just to name a few. Not bad for a foul tempered Canadian eh?
I found Avatar to be lite fare. Other than the technology used to create it, it didn’t break any new ground as far as storytelling is concerned. You have heard this tale before, maybe you read the book or seen the movie (dances with wolves?), but it’s an old story. That’s not to say that it isn’t told well. Most stories are rehashes of old ones…well, technically, ALL stories are rehashes of old ones.
This is the story of what happens when Corporate Greed and Manifest Destiny arrive on the shores of a foreign land. They find the natives are sitting on top of the mother load of something that they want. We have plenty of real world examples of what that means. This is also the story of a crippled white soldier “going native”…yea, you’ve seen the “going native” story before as well.
Other than that, I don’t need to get into too many story details. Either you’ve seen it already or plan to get the DVD/Blu-ray. One of the points I am making here is, if you never see it, rest assured that you are not missing anything as far as stories go. You already know this one.
However, outside of the story, Avatar shines as imaginative eye candy. Cameron waited until the technology was just right to create the CG characters and gorgeous, gorgeous backdrops. The world of the Na’vi is rich, verdant, and beautiful. I’m not sure how all this will translate to the small screen, but on the big screen it’s awe inspiring.
Now when the visuals and story are put together, ahhhhh, now you got something. I know I may have sounded a bit disparaging about the plots lack of originality, but despite this, the visuals are what bring it to life. The visuals are what make you want to sit through that story. To see it acted out in meticulously crafted detail.
Of course, true to form, Cameron managed to fit a love story into Avatar as well. It serves to move the plot forward despite it being between a disabled former marine and a nine-foot tall blue alien. All in all, I think of Avatar like a fine Disney cartoon movie (with swearing and no one breaking out into song), and that’s not a negative remark in any sense of the word. It operates on the same level as some of Disney’s finest animated films. Action, adventure, humor, a love story, a moral lesson or two and maybe even something to think about.
You can probably even still find it in theaters…they are certainly milking it for all it’s worth. And I think, it’s worth quite a bit. See it, if you haven’t already.
Sorry, but I love this song. Just listening to it makes me feel a little better when I’m feeling down. Figured I’d blog it so I can have a place to easily find it when I wanna hear it 🙂 I mean, it’s MY blog after all 😛
P.Y.T. is a song by Michael Jackson of course and was one of the (many) singles from his Thriller album. The version we all know and love is pretty much a remix of the slower demo version. Eything you need to know about the track can be found on Wikipedia. Click here for the wiki article on it.
So without further ado –
I like the footage used in the beginning of this video

Update: It looks like all the direct download links are dead. The torrent is still active. I WILL upload a direct link if someone requests it.
Back in 94-95, DJ Mister Cee dropped his Best of Biggie Mixtape. Those rap fans who remember, know that at the time, it was THEE mixtape. It was full of unreleased and live material such as freestyles and some of his cameos and little-known tracks from before Ready to Die dropped.
I know that I personally played it until the tape popped. I would use some scotch tape to put the pieces back together, and then repeat 🙂
What I didn’t know was that ten years after Biggie’s death, Mister Cee released a 10-year anniversary edition of the Best of Biggie. Obviously, ten years after his death means that I’m a couple of years too late, but, better late than never:) And in Cee’s own words about the new edition:
You’re not gonna hear ‘Hypnotize’ and those type of records, but it’s focusing on guest appearances. All the guest appearances he’s ever appeared on. Original versions. Nothing remade, original duets he’s done with other artists. Then you have the freestyles he’s done. The freestyles done with me or other DJs like DJ Enuff, Funk Master Flex. Then also, there’s some original versions to songs. There’s some songs you’re gonna hear that you’ve heard the album versions, but you never heard it with the original track.
There’s also some live stuff…Live from Madison Square Garden, Philly, London. It just really shows the short amount of time Biggie was here, the amount he’s done. It’s over 70 songs and a double-CD. – http://j.mp/mister-cee-speaks-on-biggie
Luckily for me (and you!) Both the old mixtape and the anniversary edition are hosted…all over the place. So here are some links for your downloading pleasure, and the track lists.
Also, if you prefer the torrent links, you need a free bitTorrent client like µTorrent

On the 10 year anniversary of the Notorious B.I.G.’s death, DJ Mr Cee spun 4 hours worth of Biggie’s material oh Hot 97. On the last Juan Epstein podcast, Mr Cee sat down to talk about his first time meeting B.I.G. and about that 10 year celebration, promising to the Juan Epstein fans to have the 4 hours available for download within the week. – http://whizhouse.com
It’s time to celebrate the legacy of the best rapper that ever did it. Notorious B.I.G. wasn’t just a rapper, he was a storyteller, a prolific poet, and through his words, persona, life and music he opened doors and opportunies for Hip-Hop as a whole. The release of denotes the commemoration o…
The reason why we act this way
is not the reason that you say
The tempting ruse the long delays
the make up sex the cold embrace
The kiss that lies the lies to face
the face to face the small mistakes
We take and take we give no breaks
we claim we hate but know it’s fake
I hate this state – I hate this place
I hate this hate – I hate this hate
But it’s the only thing that keeps me sane
– The only way that we relate
I hate this state – I hate this place
I hate this hate – I hate this hate
But it’s the only thing that keeps me sane
– The only way that we relate
Why must our love feel like disgrace
What should be sweet leaves bitter taste
You claim disdain makes you feel safe
I claim the same and so we wait
We wait for something we call change
Like brittle stone we wait to break
You like to ask me what I think
About this love and so I sing
I hate this state – I hate this place
I hate this hate – I hate this hate
But it’s the only thing that keeps me sane
– The only way that we relate
I hate this state – I hate this place
I hate this hate – I hate this hate
But it’s the only thing that keeps me sane
– The only way that we relate
–
– Do you think of me, like whispers on a breeze
– That glide past never seen, our lust was never clean
– Our love was never neat, it’s messy and unique
– It’s poison but its sweet, damn whats wrong with me
– I hate you for these thoughts, I hate me for these truths
– I hold on when it’s rough, to thoughts of me and you
– I hate this other us I hate that we never touch
– I hate that we never formed a complete and honest trust
– But I guess it’s too late now, we mistreated what we found
– We misused it and abused it and then left it on the ground
– We refuse to pick it up, guess we were scared it might erupt
– And some how that nameless thing between us turned into disgust
I hate this state – I hate this place
I hate this hate – I hate this hate
But it’s the only thing that keeps me sane
– The only way that we relate
I hate this state – I hate this place
I hate this hate – I hate this hate
But it’s the only thing that keeps me sane
– The only way that we relate Version 0.3
Life is full of contradiction and inconsistency. But life is just life; it’s the human mind and the collective conscious that adds so much complexity to something that is so simple. Consider this: We live and we die. That’s it. Everything else in between is just so much nothing when compared to these greater truths.
As they are wont to say in some places, “it is what it is.” It cannot be more, it cannot be less, it just is. When considered that way, the basic foundations of all things in existence can be understood, to an extent.
Without, there is nothing; within, there is nothing. Forming around and through this nothingness, there is matter. The space between subatomic particles is a nothingness that we cannot fathom. The space that we call our universe is predominantly made up of nothingness. Yet here we are. Out of nothing we get…something. And it is what it is. How could it be otherwise?
When man learns to harness that nothingness, to find the something that makes it up, we will have truly entered into a new age of wonder, or an age of destruction. Either way, we will uncover secrets and truths, the very stuff that we have always searched for. The key to the meanings of existence in this physical plane, possibly the means to transcend it.
On Thought: We Think…Therefore
As I became older, I began to suspect, all on my own, that much of what everything is, is thought. Visuals, sounds, the things we create, the things we do not, how we see ourselves, how we perceive others and the things around us. This is all thought.
I explored this a lot in my old, earlier poetry, and you can still hear this philosophy in a lot of my work even now…if you listen for it. I think that thought creates everything around us, and collective thought binds that general perception into one semi-solid perception that most of us just agree to agree on.
I’ve always thought that if I tried hard enough and stayed watchful for the moment, I could see beyond that artificial veil and truly see what lay behind it. And sometimes, rarely and just for an instant, I think that I do, or that I get close…but who can say for sure.
People think too much. It is our thoughts that corrupt what is really there. When people begin to stop thinking so much and start attempting to draw in what is real without thinking at it so hard, they may start to understand the things that are really around them.
That is to say, if it is what it is, then by thinking it to be other than what it truly is, you are warping it and turning it into something that it is not. Get it?
I believe that if people stop thinking so hard and start being, they will eventually become who they truly are and not the sum-total of all of those thoughts and thinking that they’ve clogged themselves with since infancy. They will be free of all that thought-up self-doubt, all those thought-up prejudices, all those thought-up thoughts that color everything they do.
This is not an attack on thinking as most people…think of it. The problem with most thought is that it is highly impure and flawed. We are taught how to not think right from birth. I believe that in order for us to start thinking clearly, we must let go of our current ways of thinking. We must start to use our senses and our logic to see what is there and what is not. Once that happens, it will be like a purification process to our thought mechanism. We can start to discard all the bullshit, and keep only that which is true.
If somebody were to ask me what Practice Words was about, I’d tell them that it’s one of those “I’ll kill you “lyrically”” tracks 🙂 There doesn’t seem to be a lot of artists making those types of songs anymore. As usual with DaEvolution tracks, the lyrics for this are pretty old. It started as a 32 bar, unbroken string of lines. I figured that’s two verses so the chorus was written right then and there before I started recording. I wanted to add a third verse, but since the lyrics of the first two verses fit so well, I decided to leave it as is.
Recording: This song was recorded with an M-Audio Nova microphone through a ART Tube MP Studio V3 pre-amp. My audio interface (sound card) is an M-Audio Audiophile 2496. The vocals were recorded at SB Studios (my room:)) in the middle of it with all the windows closed :)) My DAW is Adobe Audtion and I used a couple of VST’s for general effects.
The beat is called “On Fire” and was produced by Big B from Manchester UK in collaboration with Mr Smiff. The sound of it reminded me of the type of music we used to make back in days at the Dungeon.
Practice Words Lyrics
Here’s a message for your boy you should tell him to watch his words
Cause he talking and he rapping and acting like he ain’t herb
This is Silence and I’m back cause I couldn’t believe I heard
That these niggas think they spitting but really they just absurd
I spit with such precision like needles to epiderm
Acupuncture you with lyrics disable a vital nerve
Meticulous incisions like surgeons I’m unperturbed
– Lyrically I’m shitting on niggas like flying birds
It’s like seeing moving pictures all this action in my verbs
Metaphors deeper than scripture more angles than curbs
I’m a demon from the land lost where no one returns
Leave ya ass like damn corpse or ash in the urn, word
This the purge y’all get lyrically burned
You kids don’t understand it’s hot till you touch it and learn
I am everything you’re not I leave you niggas disturbed
I state word to my pops like I’m Jesus returned
Fuck what you think, fuck what you heard
This is just practice, these are just words
I’m warming up, feeling superb
Let’s get it started I, think it’s my turn
Fuck what you think, fuck what you heard
This is just practice, these are just words
I’m warming up, feeling superb
Let’s get it started I, think it’s my turn
I’m sicker than that virus that renders niggas infirmed
I’m a cause for concern like awaiting the judges terms
Like catalysts I bring change and unexpected turns
Like calculus I hit you head hard and spread like germs
Like atlas with the world on my shoulders I stand firm
Make cake and get dough with the butter my brain churns
A lot of niggas have been anxiously waiting on my return
I just kept telling them be patient the savior has now emerged
Stampeding y’all with bars like a moving buffalo herd
Y’all can not see me at most maybe you’ll catch a blur
Cause I’m high speeding like horse driven on by the spurs
Till I stop breathing or start bleeding I’m not concerned
I overheard niggas say I’m the best and I concur
Wipe the blade on your chest once I split you with sharp verse
The nerve of these niggas to say that it don’t burn
When I spit the flames hotter than lava and star births
Fuck what you think, fuck what you heard
This is just practice, these are just words
I’m warming up, feeling superb
Let’s get it started I, think it’s my turn
Fuck what you think, fuck what you heard
This is just practice, these are just words
I’m warming up, feeling superb
Let’s get it started I, think it’s my turn
Update 05/31/2010 – I finally got around to doing some audio for this, maybe it’ll help you feel the words even more 🙂 I used a free beat from Mr. Smiff called “Down N Out”
These words are free, so get em while they hot
Cuz if you wait too long you’re gonna miss ’em when they’re not
These words are me, just in case yo ass forgot
They were lifted from my spirit and they mated with the block
These words can be the seeds that start a brand new crop
Let them grow within your mind and be immortal in your heart
These words can sting, sometimes they find the mark
That you hide within yourself but I can see it with my art
These words are free, but somebody gotta pay
When the words that others speak can only lead to our decay
How could it be that what we seek has turned into a play
And the actors don’t get paid and they forced to go on stage
We need some better ways but they guide us like we beasts
Not even jungle kings they just treat us like we sheep
I need a better phrase cuz that sheep shit’s getting old
We’re more like auto-slaves, robots hard and dumb and cold
I hardly can control the rage that fires up my brain
When I see another corporate scheme succeed and we get played
When I see my fucking government treat people like they’re told
Knowing that the ones that told ’em are the ones that’s in control
Multi-billion dollar entities that span our dying globe
That poison our senses and destroy our country’s soul
But I digress I’m pretty sure you’ve heard these things before
But you probably could care less and think there’s nothing going on
You taking what they give you and accept their words as pure
Don’t you think that makes you less than the whores that you abhor?
I need to take a rest from these thoughts I conjure up
I’d rather smoke and sex but somebody must report
We in a global crisis that’s defined by the prices
How much does it cost to keep a population lifeless
How much for divorce from this all-consuming tightness
How much must we lose before think it’s time to fight this?
These words are free, so get em while they hot
Cuz if you wait too long you’re gonna miss ’em when they’re not
These words are me, just in case yo ass forgot
They were lifted from my spirit and they mated with the block
These words can be the seeds that – start a brand new crop
Let them grow within your mind and be immortal in your heart
These words can sting, sometimes they find the mark
That you hide within yourself but I can see it with my art
The 2010 Austin suicide attack occurred on February 18, 2010, when Andrew Joseph Stack III deliberately crashed his single-engine Piper Dakota plane into Building I of the Echelon office complex in Austin, Texas, United States, killing himself and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) manager Vernon Hunter. Thirteen others were injured, two severely so.
Thursday, February 18, 2010 A small plane crashed into a building, which was one of the Echelon office complex, in north Austin, Texas this morning at 09:56 local time (1456 UTC). Federal officials say the plane owner was Joseph Andrew Stack III; presumed to be the pilot who set his house on fire on the 1800 block of Dapplegrey Lane in north Austin an hour earlier.
On February 18, 2010 – Andrew Joseph Stack III flew a small plane into a building that housed IRS offices. Many are already well aware of this particular news item. I’m a little late to it. It’s already been reported, blogged about and hyper-analyzed all over the usual places, so I won’t go into the super intimate details. I’ll leave some links to places that did a much better job of it than I can.
Stack also wrote a 30 paragraph long letter before he did the deed (he also set his house on fire) and I’m going to include of a few of the points that I like from it below. If you want to read the whole thing, it’s easily found online. A lot of these words ring very true, which is why I wanted to blog them.
…I can say with a great degree of certainty that there has never been a politician (that has) cast a vote on any matter with the likes of me or my interests in mind. Nor, for that matter, are they the least bit interested in me or anything I have to say.
Why is it that a handful of thugs and plunderers can commit unthinkable atrocities…and when it’s time for their gravy train to crash under the weight of their gluttony and overwhelming stupidity, the force of the full federal government has no difficulty coming to their aid within days if not hours? Yet at the same time, the joke we call the American medical system, including the drug and insurance companies, are murdering tens of thousands of people a year and stealing from the corpses and victims they cripple, and this country’s leaders don’t see this as important as bailing out a few of their vile, rich cronies. Yet, the political “representatives” have endless time to sit around for year after year and debate the state of the “terrible health care problem”. It’s clear they see no crisis as long as the dead people don’t get in the way of their corporate profits rolling in.
Here we have a system that is, by far, too complicated for the brightest of the master scholars to understand. Yet, it mercilessly “holds accountable” its victims, claiming that they’re responsible for fully complying with laws not even the experts understand. The law “requires” a signature on the bottom of a tax filing; yet no one can say truthfully that they understand what they are signing; if that’s not “duress” than what is. If this is not the measure of a totalitarian regime, nothing is.
…I learned that there are two “interpretations” for every law; one for the very rich, and one for the rest of us…
It…made me realize, not only how naive I had been, but also the incredible stupidity of the American public; that they buy, hook, line, and sinker, the crap about their “freedom”… and that they continue to do so with eyes closed in the face of overwhelming evidence and all that keeps happening in front of them.
Now when the wealthy fuck up, the poor get to die for the mistakes… isn’t that a clever, tidy solution.
Nothing changes unless there is a body count (unless it is in the interest of the wealthy sows at the government trough). In a government full of hypocrites from top to bottom, life is as cheap as their lies and their self-serving laws.
I can only hope that the numbers quickly get too big to be white washed and ignored that the American zombies wake up and revolt; it will take nothing less. I would only hope that by striking a nerve that stimulates the inevitable double standard, knee-jerk government reaction that results in more stupid draconian restrictions people wake up and begin to see the pompous political thugs and their mindless minions for what they are.
I saw it written once that the definition of insanity is repeating the same process over and over and expecting the outcome to suddenly be different. I am finally ready to stop this insanity.
The communist creed: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed.

I think George Carlin explains my view on the subject best. So I’m gonna let him talk. (Adding a few in case one goes down;)
