Beyond Your Surface

shallow below the surface

Beyond Your Surface

I can see beyond the surface
Pass the shouting and the cursing
That deep within yourself
You are shallow/without purpose

Like a stagnant/fetid pool
That hides behind a pretty curtain

But baby I can see
I can see beyond the surface

Pass the talk of you by you for you
Pass your feelings as a person
Pass the promises you made
With full intent to leave them broken

But I’m not blind nor I a fool
That closes eyes if I’m not certain

Because I can see, yes I can see
I can see beyond the surface

Pass the rum let me forget
That you exist within my circle
Pass your petty grievances
Haze the past with something purple

Pass the things you’re quick to claim you know
Like the ignorance of nobles

Cause they cannot see beyond
Their foibles to another person’s toil
